Shadow Mountain and Granby Lake, CO:

Traveling in airports right now is brutal for everyone: the passengers, the pilots, crew and anyone working in an airport.  So, not surprisingly, Meg’s flight was delayed.  By the time she arrived at the campsite, it was 2am.  We awoke at 8am and decided to take the path from our campground to the Colorado River stretch connecting Shadow Mountain Lake and Granbury Lake.

Regardless of the long travel, Meg and Trigger were ready to hit the water.

Trout, some very large, were breaking the surface in abundance and at times coming completely out of the water feeding on ‘something’.  The key word is ‘something’.  I tried at least five flies attempting to imitate what I thought to be the right insect…  I failed…  However, I was able to catch three nice Brown Trout on conventional tackle.  In this case using a black Panther Martin and a floating Rapala.

Here’s a video of the First Brown Trout caught:

Later in the afternoon we decided to go to some natural hot springs down the road to relax.
