Just because a ‘fishing calendar’ says salmon will be in the river doesn’t make it so…  Whether the fish decide to move upriver dramatically depends on rainfall and tidal swings. 

I’ve always wanted to fish the Elk and the Sixes.  As I normally do, I went to the fish hatchery to verify the salmon were in the river and at what stage.  They informed me the fish were still near the river mouths waiting for more substantial rainfall to move into the river systems. 

Since most of the Salmon were still waiting to come up the river, I decided to move to my next spot, the Clackamas River southeast of Portland.
