Monarch Lake/ Arapaho Creek

Just as Meg had challenges flying in, she’s also having issues flying out…  She was supposed to fly home tonight.  However, due to hurricane Ian, her flight was cancelled.  So, she’s staying with Trigger and me until Saturday.

I went fishing this morning on Arapaho Creek, just below Monarch Lake.  The fly fishing worked in this spot and looking forward to more fly fishing in general.  Monarch Lake is beautiful and has a four-mile hiking path around it.  The lake seems hard to fish due to shore depth and hydrilla.  I continued walking the path and discovered the spillway.

As it stands, Trig and I will leave Saturday for Wyoming.

The best thing about camping with no timeline or return time, you can divert on the drop of a hat.  My plan was to head to Wyoming Saturday.  But I recently ran into two random people and, in casual conversation, mentioned fishing in Steamboat Springs: specifically, the Yampa River.  Both mentioned their belief was the abundance of natural hots springs in the area help stabilize the water temperature giving the trout the ability to feed more aggressively throughout the winter.  Whether that’s true or not, I’ll find out.  I have altered my planned route to Wyoming with a road that will take me through Steamboat first.
