{"id":1647,"date":"2023-10-25T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T15:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1647"},"modified":"2024-02-14T19:29:36","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T00:29:36","slug":"michigan-the-big-the-bad-and-the-ugly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1647","title":{"rendered":"Michigan:\u00a0 The Big, the Bad and the Ugly"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-post-date\"><time datetime=\"2023-10-25T15:15:00-04:00\">October 25, 2023<\/time><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If given the choice of a 10lb chrome Salmon or a 20+lb fish that has turned, I\u2019ll take the 10lb chrome fish every time.&nbsp; This is the ideal condition and coloration of the Salmon everyone is targeting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"328\" height=\"379\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-1.png?resize=328%2C379&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-1.png?w=328&amp;ssl=1 328w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-1.png?resize=260%2C300&amp;ssl=1 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <span style=\"font-size: revert; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">Fishing on the Platte River went better than we could have hoped with the clear water and perfect weather.&nbsp; Although we had the north side of the river inlet to ourselves on Thursday, many fishermen noticed our success. &nbsp;We returned early Friday morning to find six people converging on our spot from the evening before.&nbsp; It\u2019s not surprising and most fishermen, including myself, are inclined to take the same tactic.&nbsp; With the weekend approaching, we knew combat fishing was inevitable.&nbsp; We decided to appreciate the time we had on the river and head south back to the Manistee for more free camping and less people.<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: revert; color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">The campsites on the Manistee were extremely large with trees separating the sites making it pleasantly difficult spot your neighbors.&nbsp; We enjoyed grilled pork tacos with homemade salsa for the evening\u2019s dinner.&nbsp; I don\u2019t brag often, but if you enjoy camping and Mexican food, I\u2019ve got you covered.&nbsp; We only had a few hours the following morning to fish, pack up and head back to Cleveland.&nbsp; <\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Big, the Bad and the Ugly: Michigan Chinook Salmon\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UVwef81SsVM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only way to target bright fish is either in the ocean, or in this case, a Great Lake, or the river mouth.&nbsp; No one targets older fish, and it\u2019s just the luck of the draw when they enter the river system and where they decide to spawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Big, the Bad, and the Ugly: Chinook Salmon on the Manistee release #shorts  #fishing #chinook\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bb_fjuHg4-o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Either way you have to take the good with the bad.&nbsp; And in this case, the ugly.&nbsp; It was a great fight and, although not ideal, a good end to the camping adventure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fisherman recounts a successful outing at the Platte River amid excellent conditions.
