{"id":1355,"date":"2023-05-24T15:31:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T15:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1355"},"modified":"2024-02-23T14:11:04","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T19:11:04","slug":"montana-come-hell-or-high-water-im-fishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1355","title":{"rendered":"Montana: Come Hell or High Water\u2026\u00a0 I\u2019m Fishing\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-post-date\"><time datetime=\"2023-05-24T15:31:00-04:00\">May 24, 2023<\/time><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I knew most rivers would be unfishable due to the snowmelt this time of year.\u00a0 But I wanted to get a head start scouting the rivers and campgrounds before the inevitable crowds arrive in late June.\u00a0 Worst case, I had the lakes to fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meg and I have only been to Montana together once before.&nbsp; Our same friends that invited us to Panama this year also invited us to join them in Yellowstone for snowmobiling through the park a few years prior.&nbsp; It\u2019s not important how many friends you have, it\u2019s much more important to know the company you keep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a friend suggests a trip in January, in 9-degree weather while riding a snowmobile at 30mph and you say, \u2018that\u2019s a terrible idea\u2019, it might be you that has lost imagination and perspective.&nbsp; I know it sounds like brutal unbearable conditions, but it was an incredible trip.&nbsp; Keep in mind you\u2019re provided with full high-end snow suits.&nbsp; Also remember, most people aren\u2019t aware of this opportunity and the park is basically empty; There\u2019s not a lot to see or do along the way, so we boondocked most of the way here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We did stop and get a legitimate campsite on the way as the road to Bozeman runs through the northeast corner of Wyoming.&nbsp; As a kid and after seeing \u2018Close Encounters of the Third Kind\u2019, I always wanted to visit Devil\u2019s Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we were approaching Wyoming, it started to rain and there appeared to be an odd fog in the air.&nbsp; I wasn\u2019t quite sure if it was fog or haze as you can tell from the picture below.&nbsp; However, the next morning a Ranger informed me that it was smoke from Canadian wildfires being pushed down by the Jetstream.&nbsp; The fire was immense and I can only hope our neighbors to the north get some rain soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"569\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-4.png?resize=569%2C758&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-4.png?w=569&amp;ssl=1 569w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/image-4.png?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 569px) 100vw, 569px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day left to drive to Bozeman.
