{"id":1338,"date":"2023-04-25T16:42:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-25T16:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1338"},"modified":"2024-02-04T18:50:21","modified_gmt":"2024-02-04T23:50:21","slug":"5-rivers-5-days-steelhead-alley-day-5-grand-and-conneaut-rivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livingreeltime.com\/?p=1338","title":{"rendered":"5 Rivers\/ 5 Days: Steelhead Alley: Day 5: Grand and Conneaut Rivers:"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-post-date\"><time datetime=\"2023-04-25T16:42:00-04:00\">April 25, 2023<\/time><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Grand is normally my go to river.\u00a0 On my most productive steelhead day, I caught twelve and it was on the Grand.\u00a0 Under decent conditions, I would make a reasonable wager that I\u2019d catch at least one Steelhead.\u00a0 However, it was extremely muddy when we arrived, so I decided to save this river for last hoping for better water clarity.\u00a0 The river winds through agricultural areas including farmlands and wineries. The main reason the water does not clear quickly is due to the river bottom structure which is not primarily made of slate or rock like the Chagrin or Rocky. The Grand also has numerous feeder creeks which increases the sediment. Unfortunately, it never truly cleared.\u00a0 I probably could have caught a fish or two with muddy conditions, but that would have taken the entire week and my goal was to hit all five rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"870\" height=\"652\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Picture1.jpg?resize=870%2C652&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Picture1.jpg?w=870&amp;ssl=1 870w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Picture1.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Picture1.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On day five, I tried to fish the Grand. Not only did I have unfavorable water clarity, I also had to contend with numerous fishermen throughout the river.&nbsp; I wasn\u2019t \u2018combat fishing\u2019 like you\u2019ll find in the Pacific Northwest or Alaska, but more people than I care for.&nbsp; Regardless, I fished for an hour before moving on to the next spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-9.png?resize=624%2C468&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-9.png?w=624&amp;ssl=1 624w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingreeltime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-9.png?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With that, I headed east toward the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania to the Conneaut.&nbsp; I have only fished this river once before and my effort level on that visit was mediocre at best due to time constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Conneaut was clear in comparison to the Grand.&nbsp; So, I tried my best to end the trip with a fish on the final day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"543\" height=\"407\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s interesting what you notice when you\u2019re driving a camper versus an SUV.&nbsp; For example, on my last visit, all I saw was a beautiful historic bridge.&nbsp; Now, the first thing I notice wasn\u2019t the architecture or historic value, it\u2019s the fact that my rig is 11\u2019-7\u201d tall.&nbsp; I\u2019m not a math major, but it doesn\u2019t take too much to figure out there would be a huge issue if I weren\u2019t paying attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long story short, it was a beautiful day to fish, but I ended up without a catch or hookup for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I contemplated not posting Day 5 due to the lack of fish.&nbsp; However, my wife pointed out, \u2018you said 5 Rivers\/ 5 Days\u2019.&nbsp; She didn\u2019t call me an idiot for considering leaving out the final day, but
